Andrew Balbirnie to captain Ireland in all formats after Wilson steps down from T20 role

Andrew Balbirnie will captain Ireland in all three formats after Gary Wilson steps down from leading the T20 side.

Balbirnie had already been named as Test and one-day captain in early November, with William Porterfield moving aside after 11 years in the role.

Wilson will stay on in a playing capacity with Balbirnie’s first match in charge a one-day international against West Indies in Barbados on 7 January.

Balbirnie told BBC Sport Northern Ireland he “didn’t hesitate” to accept the increased responsibility.
